Proper storage of elastomer products

The proper storage of elastomer products has a direct impact on the service life of the sealing materials. Environmental factors such as oxygen, ozone, heat, humidity, and solvents can affect the quality of elastomers during storage.

Therefore, it is essential to store them correctly, following the guidelines for rubber product storage according to DIN 7716 and ISO 2230.

As a general rule, products should be used in the order they are received (first in, first out – FIFO).

Storage Guidelines for Elastomer Products

Temperature

Storage temperature should be maintained between +10 and +20 °C. Deviations may reduce the service life. Direct contact with heat sources and sunlight should be avoided.

Humidity

Relative humidity in storage areas should be below 70%. Extremely wet or dry conditions must be avoided.

Contact with Chemicals

Ensure that elastomer products are not in direct contact with solvents, fuels, chemicals, or acids during storage.

Light / Illumination

Elastomer seals should be protected from light sources. Direct sunlight and artificial light containing UV should be avoided.

Oxygen / Ozone

Keep products in their original packaging whenever possible, or store them in airtight containers to prevent air circulation. Avoid storing near ozone-generating devices such as fluorescent lights or old HQL lamps.

Deformation

Elastomer seals should be stored free from compression and deformation. Any stress can cause permanent distortion or micro-cracks. Do not stretch, bend, fold, or hang O-rings on hooks.
